A view of the mediterranean town of Cassis - on the Cote d'Azur, just East of Marseille - by Henry Dauberville (1907-1988).

Dauberville was a member of the Bernheim-Jeune dynasty of art dealers, grandson of Alexandre Bernheim, friend and dealer of Courbet and Corot who - with Henry's father Josse and his uncle Gaston - organised the first important Van Gogh exhibition in Paris.

Young Henry was painted by Renoir aged three! I have added a photo of the portrait to the listing for your reference - it is nice to know that a painter of one owns a work was painted by the master of Impressionism at such a young age!

Having studies studied drawing with Louise Hervieu, he exhibited throughout his adult life at the Paris Salon d'Automne and the Salon des Indépendants, in the Realist and Expressionist sections.

Our painting is special, as it was exhibited at the Salon des Indépendants in 1952. Signed at the lower right, measures 40 x 31 cm. It is presented in its modest original frame.
