Iracema Arditi (1924-2006) is considered one of Brazil's greater naive painters. Pablo Neruda wrote a poem about the artist, and writes on the the subject of her painting: "it was like attending the first loves of the Earth." (Por Iracema, Pablo Neruda, 1965) . These worlds might perfectly describe our paradisiacal landscape with flowers and birds.

Although moving in artistic circles from and early age and an interest in the traditional crafts, Iracema only started painting in 1951. After a first exhibition in 1965 in Sao Paulo, she quickly achieved international recognition, with shows in Paris, Rome Brussels, Teheran, and Zurich.

In 1972, Iracema founded the Museo do Sol, Brazil's first museum of naive art. In 1985, she was made a knight of the Order of Arts and Letters by the French government, in recognition of her contribution to the arts.

The painting here on offer is an oil on canvas measuring 27 x 41 cm. it is signed at the lower right, dated (19)70 and presented in a modest artist's strip frame.
