Description

A mid 20th century oil painting on canvas by Bertram Nicholls PRBA (1883 - 1974), entitled ‘Village Scene, Tetbury, Gloucestershire.’
To the foreground cattle in a field observed by a lone figure on a bridge over a stream, with further back right another bridge with cottages, to the left trees and houses with a church to the centre, the spire piercing a clouded sky. Signed lower right ‘Nicholls 1945’. Canvas size 12” by 20” (30cm by 51cm)
In a narrow whitewashed slip within a dull gilded moulded wood and gesso frame.
Verso various gallery labels and information on the artist.
Exhibited: Fine Art Society, 146 New Bond Street, London W1 from whence purchased in October 1945.
