Thomas Bush Hardy: Barges in the Thames Estuary Oil Painting.

Description

A mid Victorian marine oil painting on canvas by Thomas Bush Hardy; Barges in the Thames Estuary. In the foreground choppy seas with a buoy and gulls, to the centre a Thames barge in full sail going out into the North Sea, with mid left a two masted barque passing a squat stone built fortification on the far shore, other smaller shipping in the background, under a partly clouded sky, apparently unsigned. Canvas size 16” by 20” (41cm by 51cm).

Within a moulded giltwood slip in a period moulded giltwood frame with anthemions and a leaf and berry border.

Relined, cleaned and revarnished, with minor retouching.
