A charming oil on canvas laid to board depicting a seated sheepdog looking up to the light. The painting is lovely quality, with the dog very lifelike in pose and form, he appears to be looking up to the hills wanting to go to work. There are some very nice details in moss covered rock and I particularly like the bucket to the lower left. I cannot see any signature and it might be lost in the dark colours. The painting is quite dark and atmospheric in tone. The work is framed in a large heavily decorated gilt frame that really gives the whole a great impact. The frame has had some minor repairs over the years but is in good country house condition. The whole is a delightful decorative painting and ready to hang.
