'the Barber's Admiration' Oil Painting By William Douglas Almond

Status: This item has been sold
Sold by: Prometheus Antiques

A fine oil on wooden panel by highly regarded artist William Douglas Almond 1868-1916. The painting shows an eighteenth century historical genre scene of a barber (complete with comb in hair) admiring a lady passing his shop. The painting is interesting for this type of genre work in that it is detailed but also loose and free and quite impressionistic. The work is signed to the lower left and mounted in a period gilt frame. William Douglas Almond was a specialist painter of genre of historical scene and lived in London, he exhibited 11 works at the Royal Academy and 39 at the Institute of oil painters as well as at many other top fight galleries. The whole is in excellent ready to hang condition. C.1900.
