Description

A glorious mid twentieth century painting which feels almost like a modernist take on Bonnard's bathers. Painted with panache and verve, this effortless, intimist study of a young woman in a bathtub is both modernist and timeless.

It was painted by André Civet (1911-1961), a bright young star on the French art scene in the mid 20th Century, who sadly passed away very young.

A student of Lucien Simon at the Ecole National des Beaux Arts in Paris, Civet exhibited at the Solon des Indépendants, the Salon des Tuileries and the Salon de Mai from 1943.

In 1957, he exhibited in the alongside Bernard Buffet, Antoni Clavé and Francis Gruber at the Aucland Art Gallery in New Zealand.

Our oil on board measures 14 x 29 cm. The overall size including its original linen-clad frame is 27 x 41cm.
