Portrait Miniature of an Early-victorian Gentleman, Original Vintage Painting

1920 - 1940
Description

A well-rendered portrait miniature of a fashionable Victorian gentleman dressed in an outfit synonymous with the 1840s.

In the 1840s, a gentleman would often follow the fashion set by Prince Albert and sport a barrel-like chest and a tightly fitted waist. This gave him an hourglass figure which was then further accentuated with the addition of a flared frock coat. Sideburns were also popular and hair tended to be kept quite long.

The miniature is housed within a bakelite frame with decorative floral motifs and dates to the 1930s. It’s signed illegibly on the right-hand side and dated.

Medium: Watercolour / Gouache

Size including frame: 4¾” x 4?” / 12cm x 11cm

Year of creation: c. 1932

Condition: Good with no issues.
