Skippings Fine Arts has dated this piece to the 1910s.
This is not surprising, as Laprade was at the forefront of modernity: he encountered Matisse and in 1900, and exhibited alongside him and the Fauves at the 1905 Salon d'Autumne.
Ambroise Vollard, one of the most important dealers in French contemporary art at the beginning of the twentieth century, bought Laprade's first work in 1900 and gave him a one-mad show in 1901. Vollard, of course is famous for with providing exposure to numerous then-unknown artists, including Paul Cézanne, Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Louis Valtat, Pablo Picasso, André Derain and Vincent van Gogh.
Laprade would continue to exhibit that the best galleries in Europe, including Druet and Bernheim-Jeune, as well as at the Armory Show in New York (in 1913) and in Chicago. His paintings are in the collection of the Louvre and in a multitude of French and International museums.
The painting here presented is a watercolour on paper dating from ca 1910-1920. Signed at the lower right, it measures at 17 x 22.5 cm at sight. It is presented in a simple but elegant frame from the 1930s, which has not been unsealed. The overall framed size is 34 x 39 cm.
