Rare Early Oil Painting of New Zealand

A rare and very interesting oil on canvas of New Zealand. The scene shows a typical Victorian landscape with boaters on a river but when you look closer you can see the vegetation is very different with grasses and palms not native to the UK and this is because it is New Zealand. The painting is titled on the reverse 'Autumn on the river Waissa N.Z. April 1888'. The work also has a name and address on the reverse: 'Mrs Whitney. Woodlands. South Waison Auckland' This may well be the artist or could be the original owner. The painting has had some small holes professionally restored and the whole has been cleaned. The work is in the original frame which has had some repair but is in a good untouched country house condition. The whole is a great rarity and I can find no similar examples from New Zealand. The painting is ready to hang and has a great interest and decorative appeal.
