Often dressed in tattered clothes and broken bonnets, they carried baskets laden with plants in the hope of selling a few to passing pedestrians.
Some of the girls were orphans and sold flowers out of sheer necessity - one can only imagine what that would’ve been like. This beautiful image tells their story so well and sometimes a picture is truly worth a thousand words.
This painting is probably based on an older version as it dates to the early 20th century.

Condition: Craquelure and a small amount of paint loss in the top right. One historic repair to the canvas and frame with some light scuff marks.
