Brave Fine Art has dated this piece to the Victorian era.
By the 1860s, women tended to wear dress caps and bonnets that sat back on the head and were less obtrusive than earlier versions - ”no longer bonnets but plaques of lace trimmed with the tiniest of flowers” (Ladies’ Treasury, 1866).
She’s also wearing a long gold chain that extends to her waist.
The painting is housed within a contemporary black frame with gold trim.
