A dramatic nautical scene, with Swedish provenance, depicting several vessels amid a rough and turbulent sea.

This energetic late 19th-century oil painting seems to put you right in the middle of the action as if you’re clinging on to the side of a sailboat as it’s buffeted by terrifying waves.

Towards the middle of the scene, several sailors take shelter by a stone-built lighthouse as their vessel lists heavily by the rocks.

Size including frame: 21” x 17” / 53cm x 43.5cm x 5cm

Year of creation: c. 1870 - c. 1900

Condition: Artwork in excellent condition and frame with some age-related wear.
