Description

A wonderful summer seaside scene by Gaston Hauchecorne (1880-1945)

Hauchecorne was a sculptor as well as a painter. As brother to the French Consul in Beijing, he spent a considerable amount of time in China, focusing on Asian themed subjects. His work featured prominently at the 1922 Colonial Exhibition in Marseille.

Gaston also painted and sculpted in France, and exhibited at the Salons of the Société Nationale des Beaux Arts.

He often sejourned on the Brittanny coast, and our painting is likely to have been painted there. An oil on canvas relined, it dates from the 1910s or 1920s, it is monogrammed on the lower right.

It measures 32 x 53 cm. The overall framed size is ca 39 x 60 cm
