Dark 18th Century Antique Portrait, Figure in the Shadows

Description

An 18th-century oil on panel depicting a dark figure wearing a brown jacket, white scarf, and headband. It feels a little reminiscent of the style of Rembrandt’s portraiture, so perhaps the artist was a follower.

The panel itself is quite basic and seems to be hand-bevelled. It consists of two pieces of wood that have been glued together - probably prior to painting.

Medium: Oil on panel

Size including frame: 10” x 9½” / 33cm x 27.5cm

Year of creation: c. 18th century

Condition: A few scratches here and there.
