Description

A naive 19th-century half-length portrait of a seated female, believed to be a quaker, wearing a white bonnet and a modest black dress. A small red book, possibly the Bible, is resting on her right thigh.

On the verso, a supplier’s stamp dates the board to between 1862 and around 1890.

Medium: Oil on board

Size including frame: 24” x 19½” / 61.5cm x 49.5cm

Year of creation: c. 1862 - c. 1890

Condition: A few areas of paint loss, a dent, and the frame has some age-related wear.
