Brave Fine Art has dated this piece to the 19th Century.
The style of her bonnet is synonymous with the fashion of the 1840s/1850s, as its open and sits slightly back on the head. During the early part of the 19th century, bonnets tended to have a wide brim that covered the front of the head. And by the time we reach the 1860s, bonnets are often little more than a light shell worn towards the back of the head.
The painting is housed within a black contemporary wooden frame and would make a great statement piece in the right room.

Year of creation: c. 1840 - c. 1859
Condition: The painting arrived here as a loose canvas that had unfortunately been folded down the middle. As such, there’s some paint loss along a line through the centre of the canvas. It also has two historic repairs. We’ve since attached the painting to new stretcher bars and housed it within a solid wooden frame.
