Brave Fine Art has dated this piece to the 19th Century.
Her left arm is resting on what appears to be a chaise longue and her head is turned to the right.
During the early part of the 1880s, skirts tended to be narrow with a small amount of gathered material at the back. This was in contrast to the fashion of the 1870s, which encouraged women to wear skirts with large bustles and trains. With this in mind, it appears that the lady’s skirt in the portrait is more in keeping with the style of the 1880s.
The painting is housed within a gilt wooden and stucco frame, which is likely to be the original.

Condition: It’s seen better days. The canvas has one patched repair and several areas of paint loss. The frame has some losses around the edges.
