Description

An early 20th-century Dutch oil on canvas depicting a farmer returning home along a winding track that cuts its way through an abundance of purple heather.

Over his left shoulder, he’s carrying a heavy pack laden with goods as he heads towards a rickety thatched farmhouse with a chimney. In the distance, a church steeple rises above what appears to be a small village.

Signed in the bottom left, perhaps ‘J Damstra’, and housed within a beautiful wooden and stucco frame with decorative motifs.

Medium: Oil on canvas

Size including frame: 22” x 18” / 56cm x 46cm

Year of creation: c. 1900 - c. 1930

Condition: Artwork in good condition with no issues. The frame is quite fragile and has some losses in the corners.
