Victorian Oil Portrait of a Young Man

A fine oil on canvas of a young man in medieval costume. The portrait evokes the work of the Pre-Raphaelites and I do think the painting in this style is by a student or artist wanting to create a portrait in this manner. The painting is not signed (or a signature is not easily seen) and this does suggest a student or copyist work as these were often not signed. It is on a good quality Windsor and Newton canvas and thus indicative of a professional artist and the quality of the painting certainly confirms that. The whole is in good condition, the work has been cleaned, and the frame is the original. The painting has a copper tones feel to it, very autumnal colours, and has a huge decorative impact. C.1890.
