Copley Fielding: Landscape Oil of River Wharfe

19th century
Description

"The Wharfe, Bolton Abbey in the Distance": a good original OIL PAINTING on canvas by Copley Fielding RWS.

This attractive painting, still within its original frame, depicts a fisherman on the River Wharfe (which marks most of the boundary between West and North Yorkshire), with Bolton Abbey behind and mountains in the distance. Various old labels on the back refer to it being part of the Leeds Exhibition of 1868 and with the Fine Art Society in 1942. 22 x 17.5 inches include the frame.

***Copley Fielding (1787-1855) was a marine and landscape painting who exhibited 17 paintings, all oils, at the Royal Academy from 1811 - 1842. He was one of the most fashionable painters of his day, and won a medal at the Paris Salon, although he never travelled abroad himself.
