Landscape Oil Painting by Edgar James Mayberry 1887-1964

A fine and stylish oil on canvas landscape scene by highly regarded artist Edgar James Mayberry. The scene shows Lover's Leap at Llancault, Monmouthshire. The painting has a wonderful peaceful cusp of Autumn feel about it and stylistically is very reminiscent of the great travel posters of the twenties and thirties. The painting is signed to the lower left 'E.J.Mayberry'.

Edgar James Maybery (1887-1964) was born in Newport, he pursued art from an early age and went on to study at the South Kensington School, London. During the First World War he served in the Royal Welsh Fusiliers, where he spent any spare time sketching. Subsequently, he travelled the British Isles, painting in oil and watercolour. He became a member of the Royal Cambrian Society and the Royal West of England Academy. He is most widely remembered for his extensive etchings produced from scenes all over the UK.

The painting has been professionally cleaned and a tiny hole repaired. It is mounted in a period gilt frame with modern slip. The stretcher has had some woodworm that has been treated, The whole is in excellent ready to hang condition.
