Fine French Still Life Oil Painting

A lovely example of French still life painting in the classical Italian manner in oils on panel. The painting shows a typically indulgent group of fruit, with a wonderful cantaloupe melon open in the centre with the seeds pouring out. This type of painting it typical of Italian still life, with the fruit being placed on a stone slab or shelf. The painting is signed Dubois but with no initial it is too difficult to identify the painter as there were hundreds by that name, it is however a capable hand and someone who was classically trained. The painting also retains the original gilt frame which has a great tired look with some gilding loss adding to the faded country house look. The whole is in great ready to hang condition. C.1900.
