French Barbizon Country Scene, Manner of Galiany Circa 1890 Oil on Board

Description

This landscape, dating from the late nineteenth century, is very much in the style of the artists working in the Seine-et-Marne region, such as Eugène Galien-Laloue, who had a house in Fontainebleau. The latter tended to sign his views of Paris with his real name, and village scene very similar to ours with pseudonyms such as Dupuy or Galiany,

The painting here presented is unsigned, although there does seem to be a faint trace of signature (J...?) at the lower right.

An oil on board, this charming painting measures 32 x 22 cm. Overall size with its period frame - the gilding a little tarnished in places - is 39 x 28 cm.
