Description

A gorgeous and fresh little sketch of autumn colours in the forest of Fontainebleau. Unsigned, it is likely to have been painted by an artist from the Barbizon artist colony nearby. On the verso is an inscription in French by a later hand, which I can only partly decipher:

"Circa 1860-65 ....... Fontainebleau forest, probably .......OB"

Painted in oil on board, the artwork measures 13.5 x 20 cm. Overall dimensions with a more recent frame are 19.5 x 26cm.
