Artist; Reverend Arthur Benjamin Bateman. (1883-1970).

Title: "Lake scene, North Yorkshire". The Hambleton Hills in the distance.

Signed and dated 1934.

Oil on canvas.

Size: 20"x 24". Framed size: 26 1/2"x 30 1/2".

Rev. Arthur Bateman (1883-1970)

Arthur Bateman was born in Nottingham and studied there at the Nottingham School of Art and in Paris. He became a Methodist minister and lived in many places, including Barnard Castle. After retiring he became chaplain to the RAF regiment at Catterick and moved to Crakehall where he spent the last 20 years of his life.

He exhibited at The Royal Academy, London, The Royal Scottish Academy, The Royal Institute, The Paris Salon, Birmingham, Liverpool, Manchester, Goupil Gallery, and many local galleries.

For many years he was the art critic to The Birmingham Post.
