Wonderful Oil Painting of Two Bulldogs

A hugely charming and atmospheric oil on canvas painting of two bulldogs. The Bulldogs are seated looking out of the painting with heads slightly to one side as if their attention has been caught. The quality of the painting is very competent with the bodies of the dogs painted quite loosely and the detail concentrated around the faces and the eyes to draw the attention of the viewer. The work does not appear to be signed sadly, this type of painting was often made for advertising or illustration purposes and therefore often not signed. There has been some professional restoration which is lost in the background and not obvious. The painting has been framed in a slightly earlier gilt frame which works very well and the whole is ready to hang. A large and decorative painting of a desirable subject matter. C.1900.
