Description

A gorgeous little antique oil on panel by Jules-Emile Bourg depicting bluebells in bloom in the forest - with a little figure seen collecting them.

Jules Emile Bourg was born in 1870 in Metz, in the Lorraine region, but moved to Juvisy-sur-Orge near Paris. The town is very close close to the Forest of Sénart - where Bourg observed the scene, and where our painting was painted.

Bourg specialised in landscapes, which were exhibited from 1910 at the Salon des Indépendants, and at the Salon de la Nationale des Beaux Arts between 1931 and 1939. From 1931, he also exhibited in his home town of Metz again. He earned the Gold Medal at the Cannes Salon in 1912.

Our charming landscaped is signed at the lower left, also signed on the verso where it is dated 1916, and situated "Forêt de Sénart". It also bears an old exhibition number "13". Measuring 13.5 x 17.5 cm, the overall size with a simple frame is 17 x 20,5 cm (
