Description:
The dresser features an open rack, with three grooved horizontal racks that can support plates. To the top of the rack there is a lovely moulded protruding cornice, displaying the original iron hooks. The rack rests upon the dresser base, on large strong shaped shoes. The dresser base boasts a solid two-plank oak top, also incorporating hooks, below which are three fully working drawers. The drawers are pine lined, hand dovetailed and close flush to the frame. The drawers display faux keyholes with kite shaped satinwood escutcheons (they never had locks originally), with old period replacement brass swan neck handles on shaped back plates. Further below, the dresser base boasts a shaped apron, raised above a pot board. The pot board features turned column supports to the front and squared supports to the rear. The dresser stands on the original block feet. This dresser boasts its original polish and patination, displaying a mellow golden brown oak colour, which has been created from 200 years of care.
Condition Report:
The dresser is in excellent original condition, considering its age. The base and rack are original to each other and are not a marriage. Nominal old use marks to the top of the dresser and leading edges, but nothing significant considering the age of the item. The drawers have old replacement (likely Victorian) period brass handles and escutcheons. All drawers and doors are in good working condition. The drawer linings, pot board and feet are all original. The dresser boasts the original polish; therefore it has a fantastic depth of colour and patination displaying a lovely mellow golden brown oak colour. This item is solid in joint and ready to use.
