Skippings Fine Arts has dated this piece to the 1940s.
Demetrio Filip, born in Ploieti, Romania, initially studied art in Bucarest, and later in Paris, where this painting is situated. It shows the River Seine, the Pont Royal Bridge and the Louvre on the right bank.
An oil on canvas mounted on board, it is likely that the painting has been trimmed around the edges a little. Notably, the bottom of the canvas is a little jagged/uneven. However, it may well be Filip himself who mounted the canvas on board : a young immigrant artist in 1947, just after the war, would have had to struggle to afford materials on which to paint.
The painting is signed, situated, dated and dedicated "pour Mr Simon" lower right. It measures 26 x 30,5 cm.
It is presented in its original frame, but once again, the late 1940s were meagre years, and the frame is therefore very modest and should probably be changed. Overall framed dimensions are 31,5 cm x 36cm.
