A fine oil on artist's board landscape by William H Vernon. The painting shows a typical English landscape scene of cows in a pasture with a church tower in the distance. The work has a beautiful loose feeling about it almost like impressionism. The painting is signed to the lower right: William H Vernon (1820-1909), he was a Birmingham landscape and figure in landscape painter who exhibited at The Royal Academy from 1872-1892. Vernon was a prolific painter of Welsh scenes although this scene is more likely to be English, perhaps Shropshire or Herefordshire. The painting is mounted in a modern bespoke gilt frame. The painting dates to 1880.
