M Lees and Sons has dated this piece to the 1850s.

Thomas Lane (fl. c.1821-1855) was based at the Royal Papier-mâché Works, 91,Great Hampton Street and 20, Upper Hockley Birmingham. He is best known for his wares with the designs and pictures highlighted with thin flakes on the underside of the glass which he called 'patent pearl glass' although it was first patented by a Thomas Gibson.
