Skippings Fine Arts has dated this piece to the 1950s.
It is a very strong, relatively early work by Dali, who began his career as a mechanical engineer and had only started painting as a hobby. It has a raw, down to earth quality to it that is not unlike Utrillo's, and is a perfect image of Paris in its time.
Dali quickly reached international acclaim as an artist. By the 1950s important American dealers such as the Arnot Gallery (New York) and the BT Burger Company began to purchase his pictures.
A member of the Society of French Artists in Paris, Dali received the silver medal by the city of Paris in 1965, and won awards at the French Salons .
His standing as a painter grew in even more the late 1970s, when he was commissioned by the French government to paint his interpretation of the twelve sights of Paris. The collection was eventually used as the subject for a series of Limoges plates. Dali’s paintings have been exhibited in museums in Nantes and Rennes.
The painting here presented is an oil on canvas in all original condition measuring 50 x 61 cm. Is signed and dated at the lower right. It is housed in its original period "Montparnasse" frame. The overall framed size is 69 x 80 cm.
