Impressionist Still Life Oil Painting with Apples

A fine oil on canvas still life oil painting very much in the English Impressionist manner. The painting is very much in the tradition of Still life with a composition of contrasting colours, textures and light. The scene shows a vase with flower and two apples, with fabric swathed across the back. The technique is quick and loose and confident with softness of palette very much in the School of English Impressionism. The work is signed: M.Wishart but I have been unable to identify the artist, there were several very capable painters with the surname and it may well be related to one of these. The painting has been professionally cleaned and is framed in a period gilt frame in good untouched condition. C.1920.
