An extraordinary, masterly executed work by a surrealist artist of the 1940s, depicting, presumably, the horrors or war (one of the fantastical figures seems to be wearing a gas mask). With amazing detail, it resembles somewhat the style of Max Ernst. An unsigned oil on panel, the painting measures 30,2 x 40 cm. From a Paris estate.
