Little Mermaid or Siren: Symbolist Art Nouveau Period Antique Watercolour Circa 1890

Description

Everybody needs a little mermaid or siren in their lives, and I was enchanted when I found this one! I was impressed with the quality - it is so rare and interesting in art to see a depiction of a human being swimming/ immersed in water. And there is a lot of positive energy from the smile of the subject matter.

Acquired in France, it is pure art nouveau, dating to the 1890s-1900s. A watercolour/mixed media, the colours a wonderfully fresh. The artist, Frank Howland, is well listed - his works have sold at auction on several continents. and yet, no biographical information is available.

I am wondering if "Frank Howland' may not simply be a pseudonym.

On paper, the watercolour measures 12 x 27,5 cm at sight. Beautifully framed, the overall size is 34 x 48,5 cm. This would make a beautiful gift for a swimmer or a Venetian blonde, if not for yourself.
