André Hébuterne (1894-1992) was born in Meaux and studied in Paris under Paul Serusier.
She became the Master's common law wife, tragically committing suicide after his death.
Following the events André moved to Rome, and later to North Africa. He continued exhibiting his work in the major Paris art exhibitions and salons. In 1943, he returned to live in his birthplace, Meaux. I believe that the painting presented here, dating from ca 1950, was painted in the Brie region near Meaux, or possibly in Normandy, where the artist also painted. It shows the rural Northern French countryside in the autumn. An oil on canvas in excellent condition, the artwork measures 54 x 81 cm. Overall size with a classic French vintage frame are 70 x 97 cm. The painting is signed at the lower left.
Numerous paintings by André Hébuterne are in the Musée Bossouet of Meaux, others in the museums of Alger and Oran.
