Sans was born in a small town in the Netherlands in 1927. When - quite by chance - he came into contact with local artists, his interest and talent became evident.
His enthusiasm literally knew no bounds. After the war, Paris was still the capital of the arts - Klaus Sans had no money to pay for a train ticket, so he hopped on his bike and cycled to the city of light.
Klaus Sans studied at the Ecole Supérieure de Beaux Arts and the Academy Ranson, and most notably with Stanley Hayter, the last of the Hayter dynasty of artists.
Stanley Hayter had founded the legendary Studio 17 in Paris. Among the artists who frequented the atelier were Pablo Picasso, Alberto Giacometti, Joan Miró, Alexander Calder, Marc Chagall, Jackson Pollock and Mark Rothko.
The painting here on offer was created thanks to a remarkable constellation of circumstances :a young artist at the height of his creative powers in an environment which nurtured his creativity. One can see the influence of Stanley Hayter, but there is much more to it: the painting could almost be part of Mondriaan's tree series.
Perfectly constructed, it fuses energy with harmony.
Klaus Sans's work has been exhibited in Germany, France, the USA and Cuba. His work is in the possession of the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam. Our painting measures 38 x 55 cm. The overall size with its frame is 48 x 65 cm
