1920s French Expressionist, Close to De Vlaminck in Style. Village in the Creuse Region, Montparnasse Frame

Description

A wonderful expressionist French oil on panel dating from the 1920s or 1930s. It has such depth that one could be forgiven to think it was painted by Maurice de Vlaminck!

I tend to buy paintings by artists whose biography I know - and I made an exception for the work presented here, as I was irresistibly drawn to it. Very little is known about the artist Hartwig - not even his first name- although his work - which is rare - has sold at important auctions.

Hartwig is known to have painted in Montmartre, but the work presented bears and inscription in the artist's hand "un coin de la Creuse". The Creuse is a little populated region in the Massif Central mountains in the Centre of France.

Painted in oil on panel, the artwork measures 37 x 59 cm. It is housed in its original gorgeous, luxurious French "Montparnasse" frame, which gives an indication how much its previous owners cared for it (and how much they were willing to spend on it!)

The overall framed size is 62 x 85 cm.

A wonderful opportunity to acquire a painting that rivals the quality of a Vlaminck or a Gen Paul - at a very gentle price!
