Description

A beautiful modernist drawing by Simone Herman, the Dutch artist who was Fernand Leger's partner and lover.

Born in Antwerp in 1905, Simone met Leger in June 1930 and entered his studio in the autumn of the same year. Despite an age difference of almost 25 years, their passionate relationship lasted for a decade, until Leger's forced departure from occupied France in 1940. Over 200 letters between them are recorded.

Simone Herman and Fernand Leger, had exhibitions together, for instance in 1934 at the Galerie Moderne in Stockholm. The work by Susanne presented here dates from 1947 and could almost have been done by the Master. One of the photos shows for reference a work by Fernand Leger from 1949. Yet Simone Herman adds to the modernist streamlined lines a feminine charm that makes it fresh and absolutely delightful.

Drawn with coloured Conté pencils, out artwork measures 44 x 31 cm at sight. The overall framed size is 56 x 44 cm.
