This nineteenth-century Qing Dynasty settle is made from dark brown hardwood and finished with a polished dark surface. The high backrest has elaborate high-relief carvings of flowers and foliage surmounted by confronting dragons, and each armrest takes the form of a carved dragon head with detailed facial features and scrolled feet. Below the seat, the box base includes further dragon carvings along the lower frieze and corner supports shaped as mythical beast figures with clawed feet. The seat features a rectangular removable panel inset into the frame. Measuring 135 cm wide by 63 cm deep and 125 cm high, this large bench works well as a statement piece in a hallway, living room or study. The sturdy box base offers practical enclosed storage beneath the lift-out panel while providing a substantial seat for daily use.
