He studied at the Ecole Nationale des Beaux Arts in Paris (1908) and in the studio of Jean-Paul Laurens (1909-1913), but then returned to his native town of Revol, to help his ill father on the family farm when not painting.
Lagarrigue's works figure in the Musée des Augustins in Toulouse as well as in private collections all over the world.
Our watercolour is signed, situated "Collioure" and dated 1924 at the lower right. In the early 20th century, Collioure was a center of artistic activity, when several Fauve artists made it their meeting place. André Derain, Georges Braque, Othon Friesz, Henri Matisse, Pablo Picasso, Charles Rennie Mackintosh, James Dickson Innes and Tsuguharu Fujita were all inspired by Collioure's royal castle, medieval streets, its lighthouse converted into the church of Notre-Dame-des-Anges and its typical Mediterranean bay.
Our painting measures 23,5 x 31,5 cm at sight. Framed, its overall size is 38 x 47 cm.
