Antique French Normandy Deauville Harness Racing Oil on Canvas by Pierre Even Jockeys and Horses

1940 - 1960
Description

A beautiful, fresh and and atmospheric painting for lovers of horses and horse racing! Measuring 24 x 33 cm (plus a very simple frame), this is an oil on canvas by Pierre Even (1929-2001) a Normandy artist who was studied at the Beaux-Arts and with Edouard Heuzé and Jean Dupas.

Initially a world-class sprinter as well as an artist, Even had to give up sports due to an injury in his twenties. Fromthat moment on,he dedicated himself to painting alone. He horse racing scences are particularly prized. Ours is likey to be a scene fromthe Deauville racecourse. Dated 1958 on the verso, has for provenance the highly reputed Galerie de la Lieutenance in Honfleur, which sadly today is no longer in existance.
