A superb oil on canvas painting of swans on a river in a town setting. The artist specialised in scenes of Bruges and this is most likely the scen here. His work is impressionist in style with a use of bright vibrant colours and thick impassto brushwork. The painting is signed to the lower left but is not dated. It is mounted in the original simple gilt frame. The painting has been professionally cleaned and is in excellent ready to hang condition.
The painting is C.1930.

Alfred (Joseph Auguste) Van Neste was a Belgian artist known for his Impressionistic landscapes and street scenes. The painter was also a printmaker and illustrator, designing posters, books, and other visual materials in an Art Nouveau style. Born on March 4, 1874 in Bruges, Belgium, Van Neste studied with Hendrik Pickery and Florimond van Acker as a child, and served as an apprentice in Van Acker’s studio for five years before enrolling in Antwerp’s Acad...emy of Fine Arts. He traveled between Antwerp and Bruges regularly to capture migratory patterns of birds each spring is his characteristically subdued hues and animated brushwork. Van Neste died in 1969 in Uccle, Belgium.
