Antique Painted Icon 18th Century

Description

This is a rare and beautiful religious oil painting on wooden board which is dated 1741. The painting is of the Madonna and Child and has the most wonderful patination; the paint is marvellously intact overall and the colours are very much there, but subdued. It is in its original wooden frame which is also hand painted.

It is rare indeed to find a piece of such age in such remarkable original condition.

The painting is a good size, measuring 44 cms by 34 cms.

Rams Head Antiques is a family business based in Wolsingham in Weardale where we have had shop premises for 28 years. The shop is generally open every Saturday from 11 am till 3 pm.
