Lucy Dawson 1867-1954 ,who also worked under the name of ‘Mac’ ,was famous primarily for her portrait work and etching but she was also one of the most talented,and until recently, under-rated dog artists of the 20th century.She wrote and illustrated a number of books including’Dogs as I see them’(1936) ‘Dogs,Rough and Smooth’(1937) ‘Lucy Dawson’s Dog Book’(1939) and ‘Neighbours’(1939). ‘ ‘Asta’, a terrier in a travelling kennel’Black chalk inscribed’Astas kennel- he’s carried to the set in this’ image size 28x19cms, overall framed size 45x36cms

Used on p16 of ‘Lucy Dawson’s Dog Book’,Collins 1939.Asta appeared in several films including ‘The Thin Man’ and ‘ Keep Smiling’
