Sold by: Prometheus Antiques

A superb charcoal drawing by leading artist of the Hague School, Jacob Henricus Maris 1837-1877. The work is a sketch done plein air and shows a shepherd moving his sheep by the side of a river. The drawing is quick and typically impressionist in nature, and is signed to the lower left. The drawing retains the original mount and has been framed in a vintage gilt frame, the whole is ready to hang. The artist was one of the most important figues of Dutch art of the late Nineteenth century and much his written on him and his influence, this is a rare oportunity to purchase a drawing by the artist. C.1880.
