Description:
Here is an example of a fine quality antique Welsh George III oak dresser, from mid-Wales, displaying a deep rich colour, circa 1800, in good condition. The rack incorporates a cavetto-moulded cornice above a scalloped shape frieze, decorated with the original iron hooks and wide pine backboards (which is a sign of quality). Note how the same scalloped design is repeated on each side of the rack. The rack features four grooved racks that can support plates (which stops them sliding forwards). The rack is supported by mortise and tenon joints that slot into dresser base; the rack can also be secured against the wall by using the screw brackets on back of the rack. The dresser base features a solid two-plank oak top, boasting a rich oxblood colour. Below is a row of working drawers with a decorative central arched open cupboard, flanked by smaller cupboards either side. The smaller cupboards incorporate doors. The base consists of five working drawers with later brass handles & oval escutcheons. The drawers are constructed with hand dovetail joints and feature pine drawer linings and drawer bottoms. The dresser stands on the original shaped bracket feet.

Condition Report:
The dresser is in good overall condition. The base and rack are original to each other. Nominal old marks to the top of the dresser and old use marks to the leading edges but nothing significant considering the age of the item. The brass drawer handles are later period replacements. All drawers and doors are in good working condition. The backboards, drawer linings and feet are all original. The dresser boasts the original polish; therefore it has a fantastic depth of colour and patination displaying a lovely rich colour. This item is solid in joint and ready to use.
