Skippings Fine Arts has dated this piece to the 1930s.
They had met in the studio of Lucien Simon, in the late 1920s.
Like Taslitzky and Picasso, Amblard exhibited at the Universal Exhibition of 1937 in Paris.
Like Picasso's, his painting was entitled Guernica, and hung in the Spanish Pavilion.
After the war, Amblard largely turned to painting murals and large public commissions.
Paintings by the artist are rarely seen on the market. Ours is a small oil on reclaimed grey board with some puncture holes in the lower area which were already present when the artist painted the work.
It shows a rolling landscape, possibly in the Aveyron region, and a lot a freshness to it. It is signed and dated 1931. It comes from the collection of the late volcanologist Professor Robert Brousse.
