Antique 1940s French Cubist Oil Picasso-esque Pensive Woman Attibuted Nicolas Poliakoff

Description

An interesting and powerful oil on canvas of a pensive woman, which makes me think of Picasso's portaits of his wife Jacqueline.

Our painting, measures 55 x 38 cm and dates from the 1950s. It is not signed on the recto, but monogrammed "np" on the back of the canvas, which leads me to attribute it to Nicolas Poliakoff (1899-1976).

Nicolas Poliakoff was born in the Ukraine and came to Paris to study with André Lhote. A Paris School of Paris artist who exhibited with the Montmatre and Montparnasse groupes, he is known for his cubist works.
